Education Northwest Missouri State University
Since 1905, Northwest Missouri State University, a state-assisted, four-year regional university in Maryville, has provided high-quality, hands-on education to students in this region. Beginning as the Fifth District Normal School, Northwest has evolved to encompass more than 130 academic programs and a vibrant campus of 7,100 students and about 750 faculty and staff. The University offers both undergraduate and graduate degrees and has additional locations in Kansas City and St. Joseph. The campus is also home of the Missouri Arboretum and the Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship.

The Missouri Academy of Science, Mathematics and Computing is an early-entrance-to-college, two-year residential program, located on the campus of Northwest Missouri State University. Students attend the Missouri Academy for two years, replacing the junior and senior years of traditional high school. While at the Missouri Academy, students are enrolled in a curriculum consisting of all college coursework taught by professors at Northwest Missouri State University. Upon successful completion, students earn an Associate of Science degree as well as a high school diploma.

Horace Mann Laboratory School and Early Care and Education Laboratory Center is located on the Northwest Missouri State University campus. It is an innovative program that provides a clinical experience for Northwest students pursuing a degree in education, and a diverse and interactive learning environment for children ages 3 through sixth grades. Housed in Brown Hall, Horace Mann Laboratory School is a kindergarten-sixth grade school with about 130 students. Additionally, early childhood classes for children age 3 through pre-kindergarten are based in the Early Childhood Center on the lower level.

Northwest Technical School strives to educate with state of the art equipment and highly qualified instructors. Northwest Technical School offers training in the areas of business, automotive service, collision repair, building trades, child care, culinary arts, health careers, welding/machine shop, and agriculture. Associate degrees in Nursing, Business Management and Construction Technology are offered in conjunction with North Central MO College.

The award-winning Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship (CIE) at Northwest Missouri State University is a service-oriented incubator connecting industry and academics that offers state-of-the-art research facilities, a commercial analytical lab and tailored support for business acceleration. The 46,679 square foot facility provides opportunity to commercialize business including office space, wet labs, analytical and imaging equipment access plus the ability to collaborate with other tenants, faculty and students in a multitude of disciplines. Services for incubator clients are provided by the Small Business and Technology Development Center (SBTDC) and Nodaway County Economic Development (NCED). The CIE also introduces students and interested business to Northwest’s nanoscale science degree which is a newly evolving field representing biology, chemistry and physics.
